Educating Future Doctors
Beauregard Health System (BHS) is proud of its new affiliation with the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) at the University of Louisiana–Monroe as a clinical rotation site. VCOM's mission is to prepare globally minded, community-focused physicians to meet the needs of rural and medically underserved populations and to promote research that improves human health.
During their time at BHS, medical students will get exposure to all clinical hospital departments and be required to complete month-long clinical rotations through primary care and many other specialties.
"Aligning with a medical school is not only necessary for the school's curriculum but also supports BHS's recruitment efforts by introducing us to future physicians who want to work in rural areas such as ours," says Elyse Stanley, Chief Strategy Officer at BHS.
Edwin Bonilla, MD, serves as director of student medical education for the program, and the BHS physicians overseeing the required rotations have been appointed as faculty with VCOM. BHS welcomed four third-year medical students (pictured) at the beginning of August 2022.
