Extraordinary Nurses Are Celebrated Here!

Hospital news | Monday, September 11, 2023

Beauregard Health System proudly presented Debbie Thompson and Jackie Laird with the #DAISYAward® for Extraordinary Nurses on August 30, 2023. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

Their patient wrote:
I was a patient in this emergency room on 3/26/23. I have been to ERs before and given emergency treatment a few times before. I’ve seen how busy ER’s are. I’ve had friends and family die in ER’s. The night I was in the ER, I wasn’t dying (even though I felt like I was), I was taken care of by two ladies, Debbie and Jackie. They were busy, I could tell. But the amount and quality of care they gave me was against all expectations just because I was in a busy emergency room. I didn’t expect what I received. I expected a quick look over, tests, and prescriptions. From the time I got there until I left, they cared about me like I was their only patient, though, I saw them treating plenty other patients. I was nervous, unsure what was going on with me. They talked to me like a person. They explained everything to me every step of the way, the plan, expectations, wait times, medications, procedures, and tests. When they first talked to me, I immediately felt a certain level of comfort I’ve never felt in a medical facility. They didn’t have to be that great and still figured out what was going on, and I’d have been 100% satisfied. They took pride in the care they gave me. They knew what they were doing. They knew how to talk to me, for me to understand. I’m not a medical person but I’ve grown up in a medical family. I’ve seen what kind of affect people can have on medical care professionals. They get so burned out. They don’t get enough credit for what they do. I’ve always said this about my mom, aunt and cousins who do this every day. But these ladies superseded any expectation I could have had. They were kind, caring, compassionate, intelligent, funny, and amazing. I'm a guy and I don’t ever use those words, because I'm a guy. But those words are what they were. They were even awesome to my girlfriend and her kid who were there with me. I wasn’t sure what I could give back to them other than a thank you or bring them some food, so I googled how to thank them and found this daisy award. I read about it and this right here, is where those two belong, no doubt. If they give even half the greatness of care they gave me to other patients, they deserve one of these awards everyday they step in the building. I can’t even say thank you enough. Y’all the realest mvps Debbie and Jackie. I wish all nurses could take a page out of their book. It’s because of ladies like you two that I know good people and greatness are still out there. I trust these two with my life and any of my family’s life anyday! Thanks again.
About DAISY:
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families. "When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night. Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Beauregard Health System are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award,” explained Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation. For a complete listing of healthcare organizations currently running the program, please go to: http://DAISYfoundation.orgIn addition to the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, the Foundation expresses gratitude to the nursing profession internationally in over 4,600 healthcare facilities and schools of nursing with recognition of; direct care Nurses, Nurse-led Teams, Nurse Leaders, Nurses Advancing Health Equity, Nursing Faculty, Nursing Students, Lifetime Achievement in Nursing and through the J.
