Bonilla completes Physician Leadership Academy
Edwin R. Bonilla, MD, recently completed the 2023 Louisiana Hospital Association Physician Leadership Academy 100 Series. Dr. Bonilla practices Family Medicine with the Beauregard Physician Group at the Family Health Clinic in DeRidder, works closely with the Health System’s Accountable Care Organization, and serves as the Director of Student Medical Education for the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine clinical rotation program at BHS. The LHA academy provided a platform for physicians, who are champions of quality and patient safety, to establish collaborative relationships, and continue their work through two additional leadership academies.
“Active physician participation and leadership is vital in the journey to improve quality, safety and reliability of patient care,” said Dr. Bonilla. Infection control was a top area of discussion, focusing on Joint Commission scoring trends specific to infection control and strategies that leadership can use to remain compliant in high-risk areas. The course also addressed key medical staff administrative topics including credentialing, privileging, medical staff bylaws, ongoing professional practice evaluation and focused professional practice evaluation.
