Beauregard Health System Foundation purchases new Mindray Telemetry equipment for the Emergency Department
The Beauregard Health System Foundation Board recently voted to approve funding for new Mindray Telemetry equipment for the Emergency Department totaling $277,000.00.
“Safe patient care requires comprehensive patient monitoring,” said Jamie Perkins, Director of the Emergency Department at Beauregard Health System. “The new equipment features a module that instantly converts into a portable transport monitor making it easier to continuously monitor patients while ambulating and during transport.”
The new equipment also shares data immediately with the patient’s electronic health record and provides comprehensive patient monitoring for exceptional patient care. With the launch of the BHS Cardiac Cath Lab, the ED cares for an increased number of patients with cardiac-related conditions. The new monitors have 12 lead ECG capabilities, which play an essential role in diagnosing electrical disturbances in the heart. Other features include CO2 monitoring which is critical for indicating adequate mechanical ventilation and the effectiveness of CPR, as well as immediate vital sign identification allowing for quick Sepsis diagnosis.
“Prompt identification requires real-time vital sign entry. Currently, we are dependent on the nurse manually entering patient vital signs, which takes time away from the patient and is not always possible when caring for a sick patient. Mindray will be capable of communication with the patient chart, allowing patient monitoring data to flow from the monitor to the patient chart. This data will provide critical alerts to nursing staff and providers instantly”, says Perkins. The new monitors will replace equipment purchased in 2005 that is not integrated with the electronic health record.
“Mindray is a global leader in patient monitoring,” said Leon Lagneaux, Foundation Board Member. “We are honored to have the opportunity to purchase this equipment, which will be used now, and moved to the new facility when construction is complete.” Beauregard Health System will break ground on a brand new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department this year.
