Beauregard Health System Announces Dr. Edwin R. Bonilla as Chief Medical Officer

DERIDDER, LA – November 3, 2025 — Beauregard Health System is pleased to announce that Dr. Edwin R. Bonilla, Family Medicine Physician, has accepted the role of Chief Medical Officer (CMO), effective November 3, 2025.

Dr. Bonilla has been a dedicated member of the Beauregard Health System medical staff for over 30 years, providing compassionate, high-quality care to families throughout Beauregard Parish and the surrounding communities. His long-standing commitment to the health and well-being of our citizens, along with his strong leadership and clinical expertise, make him an exceptional choice for this important role.

As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Bonilla will provide clinical guidance and leadership in quality, safety, strategic planning, and utilization to help advance Beauregard Health System’s mission of hope and healing. He will serve as a key liaison between Administration and the Medical Staff, supporting the Chief of Staff and offering clinical insight into operational and regulatory initiatives.

Dr. Bonilla’s leadership will extend to multiple key areas, including:

• Medical Direction of Pharmacy, Infection Prevention, Employee Health, Rural Health Clinics, and Dietary Services
• Quality and Safety initiatives such as Sepsis Prevention, Diagnostic Excellence (IDEAS/AHA Initiative), and Utilization Review
• Provider Recruitment and Service Line Development
• Population Health and Accountable Care Organization (ACO) initiatives through Wellvana
• Engagement in professional peer groups through the Louisiana Hospital Association, Louisiana Department of Health, and Vizient Southern States

In addition to his new responsibilities as CMO, Dr. Bonilla will continue his work in medical education through his partnership with the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). As Director of Student Medical Education (DSME), he oversees regional student rotations, academic programming, and clinical learning experiences for third- and fourth-year medical students.

Dr. Bonilla has also prepared extensively for this next phase of his leadership journey. His professional development includes participation in the Louisiana Hospital Association Physician Leadership Academy, completion of Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification, and service as a Physician Champion for major patient safety and quality initiatives.
