Tracy Winkley, PT, MPT, CWS, CLT, a physical therapist and certified wound specialist from Beauregard Memorial Hospital’s Rehabilitation Department successfully completed the intensive lymphedema certification course. Winkley is now certified to perform Manual Lymph Drainage and Complete Decongestive Therapy and is qualified to establish and execute treatment plans for individuals in various stages of Lymphedema, as well as those patients with possible complications arising from this condition.
Lymphedema is a very common and serious condition, affecting at least 3 million Americans. It occurs if the lymphatic system becomes insufficient and is unable to perform its normal functions. The result is an abnormal accumulation of water and proteins principally in the subcutaneous tissues. Lymphedema is serious due to its long-term physical and psychosocial consequences for patients; it continues to progress if left untreated.
“We are so proud of Tracy’s accomplishment,” said Dr. Christian Armetta, SLP.D., CCC-SLP, Director of Rehabilitation Services at Beauregard Memorial Hospital. "This is yet another testament to the spirit of our employees and their determination to be the best. Ultimately, this translates to best practice and highest quality care for our patients” Armetta concluded by stating, "Tracy is committed to the highest skill-level in physical therapy, wound care and lymphedema, and in turn provides exceptional care."
