BHS Awarded Safety Grant
Beauregard Health System was recently announced as a 2021 recipient of the Funds for Safety Grant sponsored and funded by the LHA Trust Funds. The system previously earned the grant three times, most recently in 2020. Beauregard Health System is proud to further its ongoing commitment to support patient and employee safety through the LHA Trust Funds grant program.
The 2021 safety grant will be used to purchase bariatric safety equipment and enhance staff training to reduce the risk of patient falls and injuries. Beauregard Health System will implement this improvement over the next year, guided by the Bariatric Safety Team at Beauregard Health System.
The Bariatric Safety Team was formed in response to a specific safety need concerning falls specifically related to the bariatric patient population. This team is dedicated to monthly meetings, in order to review internal quality data, staff training, and monitor hospital safety ratings via the Leapfrog group. The team’s primary patient goal is to declare Press Ganey’s “Zero-Harm” as the number one patient safety goal. Through this grant, the team will be able to develop a comprehensive bariatric multi-disciplinary admission’s policy and assessment to prevent patient harm, decrease overall incidence and severity of falls through proper transfer training programs and proper equipment, and initiate a fall prevention awareness campaign through mass marketing, including balance education, physical therapy, and general conditioning through community awareness.
Beauregard Health System’s previous Funds for Safety grant projects include purchasing equipment for hands-on emergency training, launching an enhanced program to reduce patient falls and implementing a noninvasive cardiac output monitoring system.
The Funds for Safety Grant Program was created in 2012 by the LHA Trust Funds, a leading provider of malpractice, general liability, and Workers’ Compensation solutions in Louisiana. The program was established to help fund its members’ initiatives to improve patient or visitor safety. Since its creation, the grant program has awarded more than $2.7 million to fund more than 100 unique projects for Louisiana healthcare facilities.
